One of the biggest causes of back pain around holiday time is from wrapping presents. Ask anyone who has spent hours hunched over wrapping paper and presents and you know this is true.

Can anything be done to help? Central Illinois Neuro Health Sciences has some solutions for you. Here are three simple steps that can help you:

  1. Create an elevated wrapping station. This is important, as much of the back pain is a result of being hunched over. If you are able to, use a table or elevated counter top that will allow you to stand or sit up straight.

  2. Wrap gifts as you buy them. For anyone who has pulled an all-nighter with wrapping presents, you know the back pain can set in quickly and last for days after. A simple solution is to wrap the gifts as you buy them…unless you are a last-minute shopper. If you space out your wrapping to 1-3 gifts per day, you’ll save yourself some pain and some lost sleep.

  3. Use gift bags. Skip the hassle of cutting, wrapping, and taping with the use of gift bags. Simply put the gift in the bag, add tissue paper to the top, add a bow, and you’re done!

These tips should help you avoid the back pain blues that can sometimes accompany the holiday season.
